7th Grade Rules
2025 7th Grade Rules
Iowa High School rules will apply for anything beyond what is outlined below.
General Rules
• Game Clock – 15 min running clock for each quarter; regular clock the last 2 minutes of each half
• Timeouts – 2 timeouts per half
• Overtime – Each team gets an offensive possession in OT; up to 2 OT’s, if game is still tied after 2, the game ends in a tie
• Recommended 15 plays per player- Coach discretion applies to athlete's attendance, health/injury, behavior/discipline, ect.
• No ‘scheme’ mandates on offense/ defense
• No weight limit for ball carriers • 45 second play clock; first violation is a warning, second violation (and each one thereafter) is a 5-yd penalty Special Teams
• Punt – No rush and no return; do have the option for auto punt (35 yards), but if inside the 50, an auto punt is half the distance to the goal-line
• Punt – Ball will be dead on a punt where it is caught, stops rolling or goes out of bounds.
• Kickoff – no kicking, offensive team simply starts at the 35 yard line
• PAT – No rush on kick attempt; can go for 2 point conversation as well (run or pass) Miscellaneous
• 6 game schedule
• No standings will be kept
• Practice up to 3x week; prior to games starting, teams can practice up to 4x
• Week 1, One coach allowed on the field for each side of the ball (offense/defense). After week 1, no coaches on the field.
• Any player ejected from a game, will also be disqualified from the first half of their next game.
